The exciting baroque orchestra Arion from Montreal, will be joined by guest conductor and cellist Jaap ter Linden and rising-star countertenor Matthew White in an all-Vivaldi program that will include the Stabat Mater and the cantata Cessate Omai Cessate as well as a bouquet of concerti for bassoon, flute, and cello, including the Alla Rustica and Il Gardellino.
“Matthew White ... is the real thing, in possession of a voice that can wrap around a melody with such surety and grace and warmth of timbre that you can easily lose yourself in the sheer beauty of expression, no longer aware nor concerned with exactly what piece or composer you’re listening to.” – Classicstoday.com
“...this is generally music-making of such high quality and imagination that, regardless of what you may have heard before, there are plenty of new insights to be had. ” – Gramophone, UK
This innovative two-concert collaboration between the San Diego Early Music Society and the La Jolla Music Society features the music of the most influential Italian composer of his generation freshly interpreted by two period-performance groups: the Venice Baroque Orchestra and Arion with countertenor Matthew White and cellist Jaap ter Linden.
