#6 - Thursday, April 23, 2009, 8:00 pm – The Neurosciences Institute
Period-instrument performances of string quartets by Haydn, Mozart, and Schubert will be presented by the Gramophone award winning Quatuor Mosaïques in the stunning acoustics of The Neurosciences Institute. This extraordinary ensemble was founded in 1985 by members of the esteemed Concentus Musicus Vienna, and ranks as one of the finest string quartets today. Their performances are praised for both a new clarity stemming from their use of period instruments, and a poetic attention to detail that is typical of the central European tradition of chamber music. Haydn’s consummate Quartet Op.77, no.2 and Mozart’s “Dissonance” quartet, dedicated to Haydn, will frame Schubert’s Quartettsatz in c-minor on a program commemorating Haydn’s death 200 years ago. This concert is also part of the Performing Arts at The Neurosciences Institute program.
“The Quatuor began to interact with that ardent volatility, that almost improvisatory immediacy that always characterizes the most vital string-quartet playing.” – The Independent, London
