Next week, in collaboration with the Irish National Opera we will be screening a FREE showing of the Opera Theatre Company’s 2017 production of Acis & Galatea at the La Jolla Riford Library! 📚 📽️🎞️

This event will be hosted by William Propp of SDEMS and will feature guest speaker Dr. Denise Demetriou, the Gerry and Jeannie Ranglas Professor of Ancient Greek History at UCSD. The screening will be followed by a discussion and refreshments.🍿

Their concert in 2020 had to be cancelled, and we could not be happier to finally welcome them back! 👏

The wonderful 12 piece vocal ensemble will celebrate both its 20th season and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s 500th birthday. The program explores the music Palestrina would have sung at the Sistine Chapel, the changes in his style demanded by the Counter-Reformation, his tragic personal life, and his influence on his successors. The repertoire is sumptuous, including several of Palestrina’s most beloved and timeless motets, gems by other leading composers active in Rome.
